New Pentax FF Rumour

It is not from any trusted source with any past track record and hence nothing can be verified. But from the details it has provided, this grain of salt is yet somehow specific and interesting!

http://www.dchome.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1149840
(in Chinese)

What are mentioned:-

1. Pentax will make the world's most compact Full Frame body which is to be marketed by March 2013;

2. Two body colours, in black and in silver;

3. Using the new Sony 24MP FF sensor, possibly the same one in the upcoming Nikon D600 and Sony A99. However, owing to the agreement between Sony and Pentax, the new Pentax FF has to be put onto the market six months later;

4. A new FF kit zoom lens starting from 28mm wide angle;

5. Together with a new vertical battery grip;

6. And also a new flashgun unit, too!

7. To be sold at HK$22,000 for the body only (equals to US$2820);

8. Will be announced "soon" in September (at Photokina?).

Nothing has been mentioned about the video, though. But are the above already exciting enough? Real or not. :-)

According to the OP at DC Home http://www.dchome.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&am... the source is a friend of his who works in a camera shop "朋友相機店舖職員" (if I am not mistaken). So...

Nevertheless, nothing but plausible: Sony sensor, standard zoom to go along, dedicated grip, new flash.

The only odd bit is the one about Sony's exclusivity on the sensor: the Nikon D600 is said to share the same 24 Mpixels sensor and photos of D600 are beginning to float around, see http://forum.xitek.com/thread-1022917-1-1-2.html

May be Pentax did not want to pay the price requested by Sony to use this sensor from day one.
Hope this time it's true :)
2800$ is a bit expensive, but let's see if this turns real this time. There have been so many rumours in the past...

If Pentax price it's FF at 2800$ (Hong Kong price are known to be high but we never know...), and the top APS-C at 1500$, then a huge gap need to be closed ...

:-) another body to be announce ?

I don't buy this. $ 2,850,- is way to expensive compared to the upcoming D600

I'm sure Pentax will find a way to stuff this up and ensure it isn't a mainstream body.

After reading the words "most compact", I fear it will be a K-01 with a FF sensor and a grossly high price tag to match.
Pentax FF will be HIGHER specs than D600. And it will be PENTAX FF camera for K-mount.
Why do we talk about Nikon? I don't care about Nikon lenses and cameras. Even if this cameras are cheaper.

"1. Pentax will make the world's most compact Full Frame body which is to be marketed by March 2013"

Most compact Full Frame body in the world? So smaller than a Leica M9. To me, this means a FF mirrorless camera. Who gives a crap about the D600? Let's blow those X-pro's and NEX-7's out of the water!

Actually a FF Mirorless might really put the cat amongst the pidgins and if it came with an articulating screen might be very interesting indeed ..... as long as it doesn't look like a toy!!!

Personally, I'm tired of these FF rumours, and even more tired of hearing "just wait till photokina".
Nikon adds its own 'secret sauce' to the Sony sensors. The base unit Sony makes is a little different per customer. Hence Nikon's ability to squeeze an extra half stop of performance from the Sony sensor.

it seems to me that a camera with a K-5 form factor and FF sensor will HAVE to save space by
omitting in-body SR (shake reduction), meaning the system is 1,5-2 stops slower when hand-held.

Nevertheless, I would buy such a camera. Even at $2k.

$2800 sounds expensive if Nikon D600 price rumours are true? Anyway I sincerely hope the Pentax FF finally happens and it's about the size of my GX-20 (K20D clone).
No Pentax FF for the photokina 2012 (source: Pentax France - Facebook)
it saids it wont be sell on sep becoz they have agreement with sony that saids to be not selling this full frame camera untill half year later after sony introduce their brand new ff dslr on SEP (maybe a99)
that should be the correct translation from chinese content
